Margaux Facilitates IUCN WCC Online Motion Discussion

In the lead-up to the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) 2025, Margaux was appointed as a Facilitator for the online discussions of draft motions submitted by IUCN Members. In this capacity, she supported open and inclusive dialogue on proposed motions, helping build consensus across the Union’s diverse membership.

As part of her facilitation, Margaux provided guidance and support to IUCN Members contributing to the motion titled “Establishment of a Marine Biodiversity Conservation Area in Macaronesia.” Her role supported the IUCN motions process in advance of the 2025 Congress, helping guide Members through a collaborative negotiation to refine the motion text ahead of a potential electronic vote.

As Facilitator, Margaux was responsible for steering the online discussion in a fair, transparent, and inclusive manner, ensuring that all comments were carefully considered. After each reading, she reviewed contributions, integrated suggested revisions, and worked with the motion’s proponents to produce an updated version that reflected broad consensus.

This engagement reflects her broader commitment to advancing effective, inclusive, and science-informed marine conservation efforts. Building on her experience with ICRI and other international initiatives, Margaux continues to play an important role in connecting policy, science, and on-the-ground action.

Her contributions to the WCC motions process demonstrate the importance of early-career ocean professionals in shaping global conservation priorities—particularly as the world looks to scale up protection for marine ecosystems under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
