Strategic, technical, and advisory services to support the Ocean Sewage Alliance campaign in advancing a Global Sewage Treaty

Sewage and wastewater pollution is largely invisible yet a widespread crisis, with nearly half of global wastewater discharged untreated into rivers and oceans. This pollution carries harmful pathogens, persistent chemicals, microplastics, and other toxins that damage ecosystems and human health. Because sewage pollution crosses national boundaries, it requires coordinated international action.

Whilst sewage and wastewater pollution are recognised across existing international frameworks on pollution, biodiversity, climate change, and public health, provisions are often fragmented, indirect, or non-binding. This creates a clear opportunity for a more coordinated and comprehensive global policy approach. Therefore, a Global Sewage Treaty would offer a critical framework to address this transboundary crisis, promote sustainable ocean health, and safeguard communities dependent on marine resources.

Blue Pangolin Consulting will provide strategic, technical, and advisory support to advance the work of the Ocean Sewage Alliance (OSA), a global coalition of researchers, NGOs, and industry professionals dedicated to eliminating sewage and wastewater pollution from the ocean. Operating as a project of the non-profit incubator Multiplier, the alliance breaks down the silos between water sanitation and marine conservation

The work will focus on three core areas:

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Coalition Building
  • Strategic Advisory and Campaign Support
  • Policy and Advocacy Guidance
