Blue Pangolin Consulting is proud to support the Niue Ocean Wide Trust (NOW Trust) through the purchase of an Ocean Conservation Commitment, reinforcing our commitment to ambitious, locally led marine protection.
Each Ocean Conservation Commitment protects 1 km² of Niue’s ocean territory for 20 years, with proceeds managed by the NOW Trust to support implementation of Niue’s Marine Spatial Management Plan. This includes enforcement, community engagement, monitoring, and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring enduring protection of the Moana Mahu Marine Protected Area – one of the world’s largest community-backed MPAs.
The ocean Conservation Commitment offers a globally relevant model for results-based, transparent conservation finance. It aligns with Blue Pangolin’s work to scale innovative solutions that are grounded in local leadership and deliver measurable outcomes for people and nature.
Our support to the NOW Trust builds on wider contributions to ocean governance and finance – including the development of the Marine Mammals Management Toolkit, support to Highly Protected Areas in the Mediterranean, the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN) and risk financing mechanisms for coastal resilience in the Pacific and Southeast Asia.
We were pleased to meet the NOW Trust team at the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice, where Niue’s leadership was celebrated as a model for durable, sovereign ocean protection. Small island states like Niue are not only at the forefront of ocean challenges, they are creating the solutions.
