The French Coral Reef Initiative (IFRECOR) is a national programme focused on the protection and sustainable management of coral reefs and associated ecosystems in French overseas territories. It was created in 2000 to promote the conservation of these valuable ecosystems.
The objectives of the 3rd phase were to encourage the development of a network of Marine Protected Areas; to increase scientific knowledge on coral reefs of the French overseas communities; to assess the socio-economic value of coral reef communities in French overseas; to raise awareness of the issues of conservation of coral reefs and associated ecosystems; and to contribute to the observation of the effect of climate change. Francis Staub was a member of the team in charge of the evaluation and capitalisation, and focussed of the following themes: climate change, communication, and economic valuation of coral reefs.
